Flight deals can be found for spring break travel in March, but travelers must book now before prices increase.
New data from Hopper, the travel website that tracks airfares, showed the average round-trip airfare for March 2025 will cost $314. That’s down $3 from Hopper’s forecasted average in February, but up $18 from the same month last year.
Hopper’s lead economist, Hayley Berg, said she expects airfares to continue trending higher as 2025 continues, especially because “summer 2024 brought some of the lowest prices on record.”
But spring airfares will only be slightly higher compared to 2023, about 4%, Berg said.

March is one of the more affordable months to fly in the first half of the year, with domestic round-trip plane tickets averaging $314.
When should I buy flights for March?
Book as soon as possible for the best fares − especially as the spring break travel season progresses.
In a separate airfare forecast for spring break travel, Hopper found average round-trip airfares for the season would range from $320 to $377 for March departures.
The highest fares for spring break aren’t expected in March. Berg forecasted the week of April 14 will have the highest fares, averaging just under $400 round trip, because Passover and Easter fall within that week and many schools are closed for spring break.
Where is the cheapest place to fly right now?
For the fifth month in a row, the cheapest place to fly to from Phoenix is Las Vegas, according to Hopper. It forecasted base round-trip fares as low as $78.
A fare search by The Arizona Republic conducted on Feb. 25 showed the lowest round-trip base airfares available for select dates in mid-to-late March, including a March 11-14 itinerary with ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines for $73. On some dates, the lowest fares were for flights out of Mesa Gateway Airport via Allegiant Air.
Be aware that ultra-low-cost carriers like Spirit, Allegiant and Frontier airlines charge low base fares with additional fees for seat assignments, carry-on and checked bags and other amenities.

Hopper said these are the cheapest round-trip flights from Phoenix this month:

- Dallas: $87.
- Seattle: $90.
- San Diego: $115.
- Show Low: $118.
- Sacramento: $119.
- Los Angeles: $119.
- Burbank, California: $124.
- San Francisco: $126.
- Vernal, Utah (“Dinosaurland”): $138.
- Atlanta: $139.
- Baltimore: $141.
- Redmond, Oregon: $142.
- Orange County, California: $142.
- Detroit, Michigan: $143.
